Using Birth Control to Control Acne

Hormones play a vital role in acne breakout, which is why birth control pills are used. Although not for men, they can be highly effective in women, especially teenage girls. Usually, the birth control pills used for treating acne help by reducing androgen activity, which is actually the male sex hormone that produces oil.

Typically, this type of acne treatment is coupled with some type of product containing benzoyl peroxide. The only drawback to phototherapy is that it does not work for everyone and the treatment is costly.

In addition to using birth control pills to clear acne, Retin A cream is an option. Retin A is actually a derivative of vitamin A. Depending on the product, this may be purchased over the counter or as a prescription medication. In this case, Retin A helps by eliminating the top layer of dead skin cells, which are often responsible for blocking the pores, thus causing an outbreak of acne cured review.
