Menopause Night Sweats - The Truth About Night Sweats

There is little doubt menopause night sweats is one of the more annoying symptoms of menopause. Along with hot flashes, it’s right up there with the least enjoyed, not that any woman will enjoy any of the symptoms associated with this natural phase in her life.

So why do night sweats occur? What is it that can literally have a woman dripping with sweat during her sleep? The answer it seems is not as clear as we would like.

There have been experiments to try and isolate the reasons however, concrete answers it seems, are yet to be determined. The incidence of night sweats seems more prevalent in western society than Asian lifestyles. Maybe this is a clue?

Is there a common denominator which has western women more prone to menopause night sweats than their Asian cousins? Is it lifestyle, food or is it in the genetic make up. The latter has been put forward by researchers as a possible reason but still, nothing concrete.

Explaining Menopause Night Sweats

The pituitary gland in the brain acts as a thermostat to regulate the temperature of the body. In other words, if you feel cold then heat is generated and vice versa when the body is hot. The cooling process involves producing sweat as a coolant method.

Of course, everyone has a neutral zone and this is when you are at a comfortable level. When the temperature oscillates above you will shiver, when it oscillate below you will sweat.

Research has indicated that women who experience night sweats or hot flashes lack this neutral zone to some degree which in turn, means even a slight temperature variation can be a catalyst to create havoc within the body.

Medical science needs to determine why this neutral zone is almost non-existent and intolerable to slight temperature variations in some women, yet remains stable in others.

If you are suffering menopause night sweats or hot flashes then you at least need to talk to your doctor about them. Treatment methods are available both in traditional and natural ways but without some proper medical advice, you could be sweating it out for a long time to come.
