Kim Peek | The Real Rain Man with Savant Syndrome

The 1988 Movie Rain Man is a fascinating tale about a man with Savantism. Dustin Hoffman’s character is a truly amazing man who has mental capabilities that most of us can’t fathom, yet is unable to do many other things that we take for granted. It’s hard to believe that the character is based on a real live person.

Mr. Kim Peek is the man who the Movie Rain Man’s was inspired by. He has impaired motor and social skills, and has difficulty with abstract concepts. Yet he also has an amazing photographic memory that allows him to retain nearly every piece of knowledge that he is exposed to. He can read books at lightning speed, and he can perform some truly awesome mathematical feats.

As evidenced by videos about Kim Peek , Savantism can be both a handicap and a gift. Kim is an extraordinary man, and his abilities are an inspiration to people worldwide.
