Special Bra After Augmentation - How Long Do I Wear It?

Filed under: Health - Cosmetic Surgery

Everyone who undergoes a Breast augmentation will be wrapped up in a bandeau which is a special bra that is designed to help the recovery process of the breast enhancement procedure. This special bra is very important as it will prevent several possible complications as well as aide in the recovery process by pressing the implants down and restricting their movement. You must remember that in order to put the implants in, the surgeon had to create a pocket under the skin to make room for them. If your implants move around too much after the procedure you can rip soft tissue or worse. If you have had the implants placed entirely under the pectoral muscles, then too much movement during the recovery process can actually tear the muscles free of the sternum which is a next to impossible procedure to repair.

As a general rule of thumb, any patient who undergoes a breast augmentation will have to wear this special bra for two weeks or more depending on the independent circumstances. Remembering that every person is different and so is their ability to recover from a surgical procedure. Some people may have to wear the special bra for a longer period while many may be able to remove it in a week preceding the breast augmentation.

Ultimately it is a toss up between you and the surgeon who performed the operation as to how long you have to wear the special bra. For this reason it is important to be open with the surgeon about the recovery process so that he or she can make a good decision as to whether or not you can take the special bra off early. Only you can know how you feel, the doctor may have a lot of technology at their disposal but this technology cannot tell if your are feeling any discomfort or if you are feeling better. The surgeon needs this information in order to make a decision that will be in you best interests.

Speak openly with your doctor and do not lie about the feelings associated with your recovery process. If you were to tell the doctor something that is not true then he or she decides to let you take the special bra off then it is very possible for you to get injured.
