How to detox your body

Filed under: Health - Alternative Healing

Detoxing your body involves removing all the toxins present in your system. This process can range from simply eating better (or not at all) to taking supplements and/or laxatives to a full-on flushing of your digestive system from the other end (if you know what I mean!). There are also those who believe you can massage away the toxins through external body manipulation.

No matter what method you use to detox your body, the purpose is to get the toxic elements out of the body from where they gather, which is usually in the digestive tract.

Where to these toxins come from? They are all around us, I’m afraid. They are in the food you eat, the drinks you drink, and the air you breathe. They can enter through your mouth and nose, your eyes, even your skin. Once inside your body, they can group together in the bloodstream or the digestive tract and can slow you down and even make you sick.

How often should you detox? Depending on your chosen method, the frequency will vary. If you choose to detox by eating more fruits and vegetables and other forms of fiber, you should be doing that every day. If you fast (go without food and / or water for a certain period of time), you should do that no more than one day per month. If you go on something like a cabbage diet, you shouldn’t do that at all, as it’s not healthy. If you do disregard this advice, though, you should only do that for one week every six months or so.

I am not a doctor, so check with yours before you do anything drastic to detox your body. I’m just a guy who believes we can do things to make our bodies healthier. I’m for flushing the colon every year or so, and trying to eat good food the rest of the time.
